1.Brief Introduction Hongqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone was planned in 1979,built in 1983,and became one of the first batches of 14 state-level development zones approved by the State Council in 1986. At the beginning of its construction,with scientific development concept,the Hongqiao people planned the zone ahead of time with special emphasis on its functions.With innovative operation concept,foreign investment was introduced in and the development was made consecutively.They adhered to the down-to-earth spirit,made diligent efforts and progress,after 20 years'construction and development,Hongqiao Development Zone has developed into China's only state-level development zone integrating the functions of CBD and exhibition,office,hotel and tourism and foreign affairs. At present,there are 8 high-level office buildings with a combined floorage of 480,000 m2 with over 2000 domestic and foreign enterprises,representative offices and area headquarters of multi-national companies residing inside and with over 10,000 domestic and foreign employees.By the end of 2005,the registered enterprises in the development zone realized an accumulate business revenue of RMB 56.204billion,and the total amount of profit reached RMB 5.582 billion.The total amount of tax revenue is 3.313billion RMB and the foreign investment actually utilized amounts to US$2.491 billion.The average overseas investment realized per developed square kilometer has amounted to US$3000 which is the leading among the nationaI development zones.Fairs and Exhibitions are the locomotive industries in Hongqiao Development Zone.The combined floorage of buildings for exhibition reached 300,000 m2 in the whole Hongqiao Development Zone.The fairs held annually amount to over 100 with the annual visitors of 1 million person-times.There are four 4-star or 5-star high-grade hotels in Hongqiao Development Zone,which have 3,000 suites(rooms)in total.The occupancy rate of the hotels within the development zone keeps up at the level of about 85%.At present,15 countries such as Japan,South Korea,Singapore,Australia,Pakistan,Swiss,Cuba,lsrael and Romania have established or have prepared to establish their general consulates in the development zone.
