The plant, under the international chemical giant, Bayer BMS, with annual production capacity of 350,000 tons of MDI, officially kicked off recently in Bayer’s integrated base in Shanghai. The world-class plant is presently the global biggest facility of MDI production. In addition, a plant with annual production capacity of 250,000 tons of TDI is being constructed in the same base and expected to be completed and launched into production in 2010. Tang Peide, president of Board of Directors of Bayer BMS expressed the applied innovative production technology in the new plant will greatly strengthen the leading advantages of cost and competitiveness of Bayer BMS in the area of PMDI production. The industry predicated that China is expected to be the world’s biggest PUR market by 2015, which gets Bayer BMS to regard China as the most important market in Asian-Pacific regions.
