By the end of 2005, Lingang New City had smoothly realized the milestone targets of "Port coming into operation, bridge opening to traffic and city coming into use".
(1) Infrastructure. The construction of roads, green land, facilities for flood protection, water supply and waste water, telecommunication projects, and natural gas pipelines is in full swing. Major access-road projects and trans-regional major projects have been completed in succession.
(2) Introduction of industries from outside. A number of big projects, such as the projects of SEC Lingang Park, Kalma Port Machinery, China Ship-Building Group, Lingang Hudong Heavy-Duty Machinery, Caterpillar North-Asia Motor Fittings Center, China Container Lingang Equipment Park, Wastsila Diesel Engine, etc., have been brought in, and close attention is being paid to the establishment of a logistic base in cooperation with transnational logistic service providers.
(3) Urban Service. The New City Exhibition Center, Industrial Zone Management Center and Foreign Experts Service center have been completed and come into use; and the Nanhui District Administration Center, Shipping Museum, and a number of landmark buildings of financial and trade services are under construction.
(4) Minhang Economic and Technological Development Zone has extended its area into Lingang. On February 27, 2006, Minhang Economic and Technological Zone extended its area into Lingang, and the expansion area was 13.3 sq.km.. Minhang Development Zone is one of the first 14 national economic and technological development zones, the establishment of which was approved by the State Council in 1986. In addition to the policies for the bonded port, Lingang boasts steady and preferential industrial development policies for national economic and technological development zones.
