| Shanghai has a 700 year history and was once one of East Asia’s international financial centers. More recently, since China’s reform and opening and especially since the 1990's when Shanghai implemented the national strategy of opening and developing Pudong, the city's economy, social structure, and appearance have all undergone huge changes. The area’s production value has been increasing at a rate of 10% or more for 13 consecutive years, attracting the attention of the entire world. Shanghai has successfully hosted an APEC meeting, a Fortune Forum and other international conferences, and in 2010 Shanghai will host the World Expo. |
